Everything an Adventurous Traveler Loved about an All-Inclusive Resort Experience

Why every active traveler should try a relaxing resort vacation.

I’m a certified, verified, insane adventure traveler. I’ve been known to plan my vacations around massive hikes. I’ve been known to cross half of Paris in one afternoon so I could see as much as I can. I’ve been known to pack day trips into already tight schedules.

How the hell was I going to handle a relaxation vacation at an all-inclusive resort in Cancun?

Turns out, perfectly fine!

Knowing my travel preferences, here are all the reasons I loved my relaxing tropical vacation and am already planning the next one.

#1 - Hello Abundance Mindset!

If you’re a budget savvy traveler like me, you will not know what to do with the freedom of there not being any prices listed on the menus. I don’t know how many times I’ve sat down at a restaurant on vacation and immediately eliminated certain meal or drink options based on how insanely expensive they are.

At an all-inclusive, you do not have to think about this. You can order an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert without counting your pennies. That entree can be the steak that would normally be out of your budget. When the waiter asks if you want a second drink, you don’t have to do math in your head before you say yes. In your room, you can pilfer the minibar and order room service without budget alarms going off in your head. If you order a drink and you don’t like it, there’s no pressure to finish it. Everything is included. You pay once and you’re done. There’s an astounding amount of freedom to that.

Will there be some options to buy additional things? Yeah of course. (At the resort I attended, these were things like specialty wine bottles, lobster tails at dinner, spa treatments, and reserved cabanas by the pool.) But the included options are damn good, and truly all you need. Let yourself experience this. It’s mind blowing.

#2 - Permission to Rest

I don’t know about you, but my former gifted kid type-A personality has a hard time slowing down. My tendency to go nonstop carries over into my vacations, making me pack as much as I can into my travel time. This is both a blessing and a curse. It lets me see a lot of the places I visit, but it means I often come back from vacations completely exhausted.

With this being my default state, it’s incredibly refreshing to visit a place that’s literally designed to encourage you to relax. You can’t turn a corner without finding a beautiful place to sit. You can sit next to the pool and waiters will come around to offer you drinks. Your room will be the most comfortable place you’ve slept in recorded history. Your meals will be long, leisurely affairs with plenty of time for conversation with your dinner mates. And if you’re traveling with a group, odds are the group plan might be, let’s sit by the pool and see where the day goes.

If you’re the kind of person that needs someone to tell you that it’s ok to rest, the resort will literally do it for you. It screams relaxation. And I promise that’s relaxing.

#3 - Environment that Encourages Slow Movement

In addition to the environment set up for relaxing, most of these types of resorts are in tropical climates. These climates are hot. Hot and often come with rain. The heat will settle you right into slow motion. Anything else and you’ll instantly sweat through your clothes. And those little rain showers? The perfect excuse to retreat to your room for a nap. Embrace the siesta life. It’s exquisite.

Tip #4 - Activities if you Want Them

But hey you know what. I’m still an adventure traveler! And visiting a resort doesn’t mean that you have to check your adventurer at the door.

Every resort has a mess of activities. The one I visited had everything from tequila tastings and beach volleyball, to evening performances and early morning yoga. You’ll never be at a loss for things to do if you get tired of sitting in the sun with a margarita.

And if you want to get off the resort (read: if you want to snorkel with turtles), there’ll be a tour desk that you can visit and learn about all the excursions that partner with the resort. You can book whatever tour catches your attention right there and then.

Have I Sold you on the All-Inclusive Resort Experience yet?

The verdict? Even this adventure-monger absolutely loved their all inclusive experience and can’t wait to go back. Give yourself the gift of relaxation and luxury. You deserve it.
